TERATOGENICITY OF SCHMALLENBERG AND AKABANE VIRUSES IN CHICKEN EMBRYOS – PRELIMINARY STUDIES

Dr. Áine Collins graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from the University College Dublin, Ireland, in 2013. She is currently a fourth-year PhD student from Cork, Ireland. Her research is on Schmallenberg virus epidemiology, virology and entomology. In 2016, Áine was awarded a Teagasc Walsh Fellow overseas travel bursary, which allowed her to travel to the Elisabeth MacArthur Agriculture Institute in Australia to work with Dr. Peter Kirkland and his staff in the virology department. Áine’s ultimate career goal is to work in animal health surveillance and emerging infectious diseases of both veterinary and public health concern.

IDENTIFICATION OF A NOVEL PARVOVIRUS RELATED TO PRIMATE BUFAVIRUSES ASSOCIATED WITH CANINE INFECTIOUS RESPIRATORY DISEASE IN DOGS

Dr. Gianvito graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies in 2008, and a Master’s Degree in Medical Biotechnologies and Molecular Medicine in 2011 both from the University of Bari in Bari, Italy. In 2013, he began working on a PhD on Animal Welfare and Zoonoses, also at the University of Bari under the supervision of Professor Vito Martella. In 2016, he became a research fellow at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Bari with the topic Emergent Coronaviruses in Domestic Animals. His research is focused on various topics of human and animal microbiology including molecular characterization, epidemiology and phylogenetic analysis of animal pathogens, focusing on zoonoses.
